When you are doing google search, you are actually
searching a web. You are searching google index of the web. It is made up of
over 60 trillion individual pages and it’s growing rapidly day by day.
Google navigates the web by crawling and this is
performed by spiders i.e. googlebot. They sort the pages by the content of the
website and many other factors. They index all the webpage and index the
webpages they link to and similarly index all the webpages which are linked. They
keep all the pages in giant database and it’s over 100 million gigabytes.
Google has its own algorithm to deliver you the best
result as possible when you search anything. When we search a webpage, spider
search the index of webpage that include that search term. Now, google’s
algorithm try to better understand what you mean and look for synonym, spelling
and other factors of each and every webpages in its database related to that
keyword. Googlebot produce million results for that keyword. Spiders ( Googlebot
) check many number of times that how many times the search query is repeated
in that webpages. Spiders checks each and every webpages. Does that keyword
lies in title, content, link or in other places? Does that page include synonym
for that word? Is this page from quality website or low quality web-site even
spamming. How many backlinks does it have? Is it linking to quality site or
non-quality site. Google combine all these factors and then rank the results.
Google use over 200 factors to rank the results and they take only 1/8 second
to display the result.
These are the way how google search works. But the way of
crawling the web by google changes constantly. Recently possum update and panda4.0 update has been made by google in its algorithm and this updates are now,
the major algorithm to determine the rank of the website .
